About the book

Now in its 4th edition, Planet Geography is the first textbook written in English for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Geography course. It also incorporates additional material that gives excellent coverage of other globally focussed senior Geography courses.

The first edition was published in 2002. The book gained quick acceptance in hundreds of schools in many countries. In 2003, the much-acclaimed second edition was published, followed by the expanded 3rd edition in 2005.  In 2007, the improved 4th edition was released.

Changes in the 4th edition include the following:

o Total size of 761 pages (210mm x 285mm)

o New and improved photographs and updated diagrams

o Statistics have been updated

o The new sections added in the 3rd edition on globalisation, atmospheric hazards (including global climate change), coastal management, development, global tourism, and several case studies have been revised and updated.

Planet Geography takes a highly visual approach, integrating illustrations with the text throughout. Furthermore, the book makes extensive use of case studies to develop content and concepts, it incorporates questions that encourage critical and creative thinking skills, including Theory of Knowledge (ToK) type issues, and it incorporates web links through this website.

Planet Geography incorporates up-to-date concepts and statistics. The book is richly illustrated with over 1260 colour photographs taken by the author, plus over 200 maps and diagrams, including topographic map extracts from several countries.

Planet Geography has been written by an experienced author of some 25 books, who is a practising classroom teacher, and a former Deputy Chief Examiner for the International Baccalaureate.
